For the last 11 years Throbgoblin, Z-Pyramid, Jamie Walker and numerous friends have been producing a weekly community radio broadcast for Newcastle University’s 2NUR-FM.Affected is devoted to a wide variety of strange musical forms including- ambient, electronic, soundscapes, improvised remixing , found sound / sampling,trance / dub, industrial / noise , experimental and world music and is one of the longest continuously running programs of its kind in Australia.Initially being heavily inspired by artists such as Negativeland ,Throbbing Gristle,William  Burroughs , Einsturzende Neubauten , Coil , Future Sound Of London, Techno Animal ,Clan Analogue , Black Dog and many more, we set about to provide a weeklyshow specializing in unusual recordings and presentation techniques , creating/remixing content from documentaries and film soundtracks ,cut-up political speeches,analogue synthesizers, reel to reel tape machines , computer audio software, samplers and effects racks, all done with an emphasis on humour and chance.

We choose to deliver these audio presentations with little or no talking or back announcing of music as an alternative to the bullshit-laden, over-announcing of local and national commercial stations. While other programs had an emphasis on more traditional forms of radio programming techniques and “presenter as superstar” model , our approach was to let the audio content be the most important part of the show with as little emphasis on the presenters as possible.During this time we made links with other people doing similar things – Andrew Kettle on Brisbanes 4zzz-fm, Brendan Palmer from SBS radio Alchemy,Benn Grooveys Starship Radio Show  on Sea-FM , Mikey Fungus onTaree’s 2 Bob fm and various others have been supportive and inspirational over the years as well as the local live artists,producers, guest performers and Dj’s who have presented their musical works or shared their music collections with our audience over the last 10 years.

In addition we have made approximately 3-400 hours of recordings of these improvised shows which we also use as sound sources for remixing. Ouroboros style.
Affected goes to air every friday night 

 from 11pm - 3AM.
